Ps 5:1-3 Give ear to my words, O Lord, consider my meditation.
2 Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray.
3 My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.
KJV
We have in Psalm five one of the keys to answered prayer in the life of the believer. Most all of us wonder from time to time why God isn’t answering our prayers in the way we believe we need. There are times of course when God’s will is not what we are moving towards and so the answer is no or withheld for a time. There are other times when sin hinders our prayers. And then there are times like we see here is Psalm five. Notice that David spent time, much time in prayer. (Meditation in verse one.) How much time do you spend in prayer? Is prayer rushed, is prayer something you get to when you have time? We need to spend time, much time in prayer. David also prayed in the morning to start his day. (Verse three.) We can pray anytime, should pray all the time, but in the morning hour it is important to pray. I can’t ask for direction for my day after my day is over. I can’t ask for protection for the day after the day is over. We need to pray in the morning. And finally, David prayed to the one who had authority over him. (Verse two.) David did not order God around but approached God with reverence and respect. How do we approach God? Put these three things into practice and perhaps we will see more answered prayer.
