Phil 1:1-6 Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:
2 Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
3 I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,
4 Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy,
5 For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now;
6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
KJV
Before Jesus ever does anything in us He first does something for and to us. Jesus died for us on the cross and then drew us to that cross. That is the for and to us. It is only after an individual gets saved that Jesus can do something in them. But now what does Jesus do in us? This I could preach on for years but just a few things over the next few days. He first places the Holy Spirit in us. (Eph 1:13-14 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.) This sealing and the Holy Spirit taking up residence within the child of God takes place the moment one is saved. There is no waiting for a second blessing, no praying for the Spirit, He is placed within the moment one is born again. For what purpose? One is so we can have a true and clear understanding of the Word of God. (1 Cor 2:12-14 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.) This understanding of the Word of God allows us to grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. No unsaved person, no matter how educated, can have a true and clear understanding of the Bible. The simple things they can grasp, the things leading to salvation. But only a true born again believer can grow in the Lord by reading His Word. We have a work being done in us.
