And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

“Let us pass over to the other side.” Jesus wanted to get to the other shore, to pass over. But there is something greater to be seen in this passage as well as there often is in the Bible. Jesus knew the storm was coming as He knows all things all the time so why not wait until the storm passed to pass over? Because it often takes a storm of life to get us to pass over to a deeper walk of faith with Him. Note the response of the disciples in verse forty one. Now they had already believed on Jesus as the Messiah, had already left former lives behind to follow Him. Still they needed a deeper walk of faith and that took the storm. What storm are you in right now? In every child of God there are storms they must pass through and how we respond to them will strength or weaken our faith. Trust Him, depend upon Him, call out to Him as stay close beside Jesus until the storm passes. Then we will also marvel at the manner of man, the manner of savior Jesus is.
