2 Peter 1:1-4 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
KJV
The Bible speaks here of exceeding great and precious promises. What makes the promises of the Bible exceeding and great is the fact that God cannot lie, that it is impossible for God to lie.
(Heb 6:18 That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:) But how do I know the promises of the Bible are for me? Peter under inspiration of the Holy Spirit wrote these words to those who had obtained precious faith. Notice in verse one it is “Like precious faith”. Peter is addressing those who were born again in the way that he was, in the only way that makes eternal life possible, by faith in Jesus Christ and Jesus Christ alone. People have faith but most have a misplaced faith. Faith in a church, in works, in anything or any other than Jesus Christ will not save. So if I want the promises of God I must first be born again. Before we look at some of those promises throughout this week the first thing you need to be sure of is your salvation. Be sure you are in the faith before you claim the promises of God by faith.
