Eph 6:10-16 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

I will be preaching on the above portion of Scripture on Sunday morning and one at once thinks of the armor of God, of all the pieces and of their importance. Truly all these pieces of armor are important but the message will center on two words and just one piece of armor. The two words are found at the beginning of verse sixteen, above all. Those two words used together as they are in verse sixteen are found fifty three times in the Bible and they point to the importance of something or position of something. The first time those words are used like this are in Genesis three when God cursed the serpent above all others animals because it was used of Satan in the fall of man. The last time is in Third John when the above all wish of the beloved apostle is that those believers prosper. All the pieces of armor we find in the above passage are important but to one of them is ascribed the phrase above all and that one will be the subject of the message on Sunday morning at Cherry Corner.
