2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
KJV
Everyone wants to have a happy life, we want our children to have happy lives. Wouldn’t the same be true of Mary and Joseph? Wouldn’t they want a happy life for their children and wouldn’t Mary want a happy life for Jesus? (Joseph was NOT the father of Jesus and Mary was and is NOT the mother of God.) But wouldn’t they want a happy life for Jesus? And Jesus deserved to have a happy life never having sinned in his life. Jesus never told a lie, never talked back to Mary, never stole anything, never had an evil thought. Wouldn’t Jesus have deserved to have a happy life? But he did not, He was acquainted with grief. What sadness in the early years we are not told, but such sadness in the later years of His life. Jesus was a man acquainted with grief, Jesus knew what it was to cry bitter tears, Jesus knew pain, knew what a broken heart is, Jesus was acquainted with grief. Why is this important? Jesus knows every tear you shed, every tear I shed, every sorrow, every fear, Jesus went through them all and Jesus is acquainted with grief. That my friend is why He can comfort us so in our hours of darkness, fear and grief.
