And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.
And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.
And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.
And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.
And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.
And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.

There had to be many things that were weighing heavy on the mind of Jesus as He made is way towards Jerusalem just a few days before the cross and one of those things are found in our passage this morning, that was His desire to see lost souls gain God’s free gift of salvation. I say that because Jesus looked up and not by accident and saw Zacchaeus. Jesus did not see a little man, did not see a hated tax collector, Jesus saw a lost soul and take note of what Jesus said in verse five. Why did Jesus need to abide at that man’s house? For the same reason Jesus needs to abide in your house and in mine. Jesus was and is the answer for sin, the way of salvation, the one and only door to heaven. That little man more than likely had many more problems come up in his life but one need, the greatest need in his life was answered when he invited Jesus to come in. Have you ever invited Jesus into your heart, into your life, into your home?
