Mark 4:38-41 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
KJV
Did you know that the word panic is not found in the Bible although there are an abundance of situations that seemed to call for one? The disciples in the account above were in a panic, they thought the ship they were in was going down in a storm. But when they finally turned to Jesus there was a great calm. America is now in a full blown panic over this new virus. We as believers in Christ should take it seriously, but do we need to panic as most seem to be doing. If we believed the Lord was in control of all things in January we can believe just as much in March. I have noticed that several churches in our area have canceled services over the virus. I wonder, why forsake the only one who can bring us a calm? Nursing homes are in a lock down mode with no visitors at all. I wonder if our service, canceled for tonight by the nursing home, might have brought some hope to the residents? Why shut out the one who can bring a calm? As Christians we should not be gripped by the fear of others, we have one we can turn to, one who can calm the troubled sea, one who can restore peace and order to our lives. As I watch many panic I ask the Lord Jesus Christ to grant me a peace and calmness, and to allow that to be seen. Who are you turning to in the face of a pandemic? Fox News, CNN, President Trump, Governor Wolf, our county commissioners? Only one is able to calm this storm and that is Jesus.
