Ps 116:1-7 I love the Lord, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications.
2 Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I call upon him as long as I live.
3 The sorrows of death compassed me, and the pains of hell gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow.
4 Then called I upon the name of the Lord; O Lord, I beseech thee, deliver my soul.
5 Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; yea, our God is merciful.
6 The Lord preserveth the simple: I was brought low, and he helped me.
7 Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the Lord hath dealt bountifully with thee.
KJV
“Rest in peace” is a phrase I have been hearing a great deal about this week with the tragic death of nine people in California including basketball great Kobe Bryant and his daughter. The death of the basketball player made this crash international news and many have taken the time to speak of his greatness I guess rightly so. Many then comment that he is resting in peace or say “Rest in peace”. I wonder if he is resting in peace? This is not about Mr. Bryant because I of course did not know him, but when this last breath is taken on earth eternity begins and all do not rest in peace. If one has never repented of sin and turned to Jesus Christ their last breath in this life begins a terrible existence in eternity, an eternity spent in hell. I hope someone reached Mr. Bryant with the gospel, I hope he trusted in Jesus Christ, I hope he was born again for only then will peace follow death. I also hope the other eight people were saved as well. What all of us will find is that what we accomplish in this world will not matter in eternity unless we are born again and unless it was something done for the Lord.
