Hos 10:12 Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the Lord, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.
KJV
Where I live there is a lot of fallow ground. Ground that is no longer being farmed, ground left to itself. That ground was once planted in corn, clover, and other things. It used to yield crops and it was useful and beautiful to look at as one watched the different stages of planting, growth and harvest. Now it is barren and produces nothing. I often think of how sad that is while I drive by those empty fields. The picture we have in our verse this morning is of spiritual ground that has gone fallow, that is not being used, that is not producing anything. How sad that must be to our God when He sees His children who once were alive and serving Him doing nothing. I know many Christians who fall into this verse, how about you? Is it time to break up your fallow ground, time to once again become useful to the Lord. The same invitation is before us today as was before Israel, break up your fallow ground.
