10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.KJV
I cannot express the good tidings of great joy that I have this time of year. From Thanksgiving to Christmas is my favorite time of year but not for the reasons one might assume. I like hunting season here in PA which follows Thanksgiving day. I like the family gatherings at Thanksgiving and Christmas as well. I like choosing gifts for my loved ones at Christmas. I like the late hunting season after Christmas. But the reason this is my favorite time of year is because a Savior was given to the world and that became real to me over fifty years ago between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I remember so clearly the conviction that I was a sinner that really began to take hold after that Thanksgiving when I was ten years old. I remember fighting against the Holy Spirit, resisting the gift Jesus Christ came into the world to give to me. I remember finally repenting of my sin, confessing before God that I needed Jesus and I needed to be saved, I remember asking Jesus Christ to forgive me of my sin and be my savior. I remember the burden of sin being lifted off of me and the joy of the Lord flooding over me. I remember those things like they happened just yesterday. Yes, this is my favorite time of year. Merry Christmas.
