13 Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise.

This invitation from Jesus comes at a very important time in the lives of the disciples, now apostles as they have seen the risen Lord. All of them, not just Peter, felt as if they had failed the Lord. Peter was the one who denied even knowing Jesus but all had fled the night Jesus was taken by the mob and all present had joined Peter in going back to the fishing boats at the beginning of this chapter. What does Jesus do when He encounters them? There is the gracious invitation “Come and dine.” Jesus would welcome them, Jesus would have fellowship with them and later in this chapter Jesus would commission them. This tells me that while I am to do my best by the power of the Holy Spirit to stay faithful to Jesus, to serve Jesus, to obey Jesus, when I fail all is not lost Jesus still wants to have fellowship with me, Jesus still wants to be close to me. That my friend is a great blessing to this preacher. How many times I have heard those words “Come and dine” I could not count but they sound as sweet in my ears as they ever have.
