October 14th, 2019 by Pastor SolleyPhil 3:8-9 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,
9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

Very few things in this life are free, we must give up something to get something. In order to have a home I had to give up a certain amount of money each month until it was paid off. I still must give up a certain amount of money each month to maintain that home. Very few things in life are free. Our salvation in Jesus Christ is free, it comes at no cost to us, all we need do is repent and receive God’s free gift of salvation in Jesus Christ. Yet Paul stated that there was loss, that he counted all things as loss. What did Paul have to give up and what did he gain. His gain was a close walk with the Lord Jesus Christ after salvation, his gain was growing in knowledge of the Lord. For those things there is a cost. Perhaps I need to give up a love for the world to gain a greater love for Jesus. Perhaps I need to give up time in the world in order to spend more time with Jesus. Perhaps I need to give up my desire to follow the flesh in order to be led of the Holy Spirit into a deeper walk with Christ. Salvation is free but to grow closer, to know more, to feel the presence of God, for those things there is a cost. Paul was willing to count all things as loss.
