Titus 2:11-14 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
KJV
Why did Jesus die on the cross? The answer most people will give is to give us an opportunity to receive eternal life, He died for our sins. That answer is true but it is not the only reason Jesus died on the cross. In verse fourteen we see three other reasons Jesus died on that cross. To redeem us from all iniquity, to make Himself a peculiar people, to allow us to serve Him. Failure to look beyond the cross is one reason many miss the deeper or higher Christian life depending upon how one wants to state it. Jesus did much more than provide for you eternal life, He also provided a life to live right now. We need to look first at the cross but we need also to look beyond the cross.
