June 5th, 2019 by Pastor SolleyJer 18:1-6 The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,
2 Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.
3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.
4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.
5 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
6 O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the Lord. Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.

What do I want you to make of me today said the clay to the potter. Whatever you decide said the potter to the clay. That is a conversation that never took or never takes place, the potter has power and authority over the clay as we saw on Monday. However for many Christians that is not the way they see this illustration, they want to tell the potter what they will be and have the potter go along with them. What we need to remember is that the potter is much wiser than we are, He knows what we can be and knows what He wants us to be. What we find out in the end if we allow Him to mold and shape us is that His way is the better way. For example I am a school teacher and a baseball coach, at least that is what I wanted to be. I went to a state college, majored in education, was on the path that I had chosen, but it was not the path God chose for me. The potter had to remove me from that setting and remove many stones from my life until He set me on His path. As I look back I see the better life He had for me. Could I have been happy as a teacher and coach? Yes. But not nearly as happy and blessed as I have been over these past many years. What will I make of you today said the potter to the clay. Whatever you decide said the clay to the potter.
