June 3rd, 2019 by Pastor SolleyJer 18:1-6 The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,
2 Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.
3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.
4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.
5 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
6 O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the Lord. Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.
KJV
This is a very clear illustration of the authority of God and it was given to Jeremiah to show Israel that God did and does have authority over them. It is also repeated in the book of Romans in the New Testament and so can be used as an illustration of the authority that God has over man today and especially over the born again believer in Christ. In verse 4 above we see the potter working on a lump of clay, molding and shaping it into something that can be of use, something of value. Christian that is God’s purpose in our lives. When we were lost and without Christ we were useless before God but when we were born again we became His and now He would make of us something useful, something of value. For most of us this will take much work on the part of the potter, on the part of the Lord. The question for today is this, are we willing to be molded by God, to place our lives in the hands of the potter? We will have to be shaped by Him, made into something useful by Him. Are we willing to allow the potter to shape and mold us, to change us into something useful? More tomorrow.
