Rom 8:15-17 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

Another part of the fatherhood of God enjoyed by the believer in Chris is assurance, being made sure by the Holy Spirit that we are a child of God by the new birth. I did not look like my earthly father but there was no doubt I was his son. (He is now in heaven.) I have some of his nature, some of his traits and those things continue even now. My will often tell me I am just like my father, I take it as a compliment. We receive assurance from the Holy Spirit that we are saved, that God through Jesus is our Father. That assurance comes as we grow in the Lord, as we spend time in prayer, time in His Word, as we become more like Christ. There should be no lingering doubts about salvation for the born again believer, His Spirit gives us assurance.
