January 17th, 2019 by Pastor SolleyHeb 4:9-13 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
KJV
Isn’t it a good thing to enter into rest? Only those who know what hard work is can really appreciate good rest. I think this morning of the rest that can be found in the Lord Jesus Christ. So many people try and please God, and they work hard, they labor to please God, but only to find that they come up short. All of the work, all of the labor is in vain and the more one tries to get closer to God on their own the farther they move away from God. But now we see Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the one who came and sacrificed His life that we might come close to God. What a blessed thing to stop trying to work our way to God and to just trust in Jesus Christ. Why does it say then we must labor to enter into that rest? Because we must overcome self, we must overcome pride, we must overcome doubt and fear, we must just trust and at times that is work as well.
