Jer 31:1-3 At the same time, saith the Lord, will I be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people.
2 Thus saith the Lord, The people which were left of the sword found grace in the wilderness; even Israel, when I went to cause him to rest.
3 The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.
KJV
When I read verses like these in the Old Testament there is a New Testament passage that comes immediately to my mind. Heb 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. Yes, Jeremiah 31 was written to Israel, but doesn’t the same God who never changes love the born again believer in Christ the same way? Haven’t we been drawn to Him as all men are? Are we given the grace of God in the same way Israel was? Never read the Old Testament in a detached way. While there are some things that are just for Israel we need to remember that Jesus Christ never changes.
