Ex 15:24-27 And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink?
25 And he cried unto the Lord; and the Lord shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them,
26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that healeth thee.
27 And they came to Elim, where were twelve wells of water, and threescore and ten palm trees: and they encamped there by the waters.

My favorite day of the year will soon be here, Thanksgiving Day. With that in mind I would like to look at thanksgiving in the Bible and to do that I first want to look at some unthankful people. Israel had much, even when they were without water in the wilderness, to be thankful for. God had just delivered them from terrible bondage in Egypt, destroyed the armies of Egypt in the Red Sea while they walked through on dry ground. They now had their freedom, were on the way to the Promised Land, had a spiritual leader in Moses, they had much to be thankful for. But what was the first thing they did? The complained, in the multitude of blessings, they complained. Christian, as you look back over the past year, as you look at the blessings of God, the provision of God, what are you found doing, complaining or giving thanks? We are to be a thankful people and there is not one person reading this devotional that doesn’t have much to be thankful for. I use Thanksgiving Day to mark my years, not New Years Day. Some years have been very difficult, some years have held many losses, some years have been marked by sickness, but always there is much to be thankful for, always there is reason to praise God. Are you seen as one who complains or one who gives thanks. Even without water Israel had much to be thankful for, they just couldn’t see it.
