2 Tim 2:1-4 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
KJV
A good soldier, no matter what branch of the military, must be willing and able to take and obey orders. There is a chain of command in the military that ever starts at the bottom, it always starts at the top. I talked to a sailor one time who told me the first thing he did each day was look at the “Orders of the day”, they told him what to do and when to do it, where to be and when to be there, he had his orders of the day. No soldier, or sailor, decides what he will do, orders are given and they are expected to carry them out. There is no difference in the army the Christian is in, we have a commander who expects us to seek out our orders of the day and carry them out. Where do we find our orders? We find them in the Bible and in prayer. One cannot be a good soldier without reading the Bible, without seeking out what God wants from us on a daily basis and without prayer seeking specifically His orders for us. How much time do you spend in the Bible and in prayer daily? That goes a long way in determining what type soldier you are.
