Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
KJV
The Bible points out several times that there are things we as Christians are to stand fast in or stand fast for, one of them in our text this morning. We are to stand fast in liberty, but what does that mean? Are we free to do whatever one likes? Are we free to say whatever one wants? What is this liberty? We as believers in Christ have been set free not only from the punishment of sin, Christ bore that, but also free from the actions of sin. The yoke of bandage in our verse looked back to Old Testament Law, the believing Jew had been set free from that. But we have also been set free from the bondage of sin, we are no longer under the yoke of Satan. Yes we still have the flesh, we will still fall short of what God wants us to be many times, we will still sin. But we no longer have to walk in sin, be controlled by sin, no longer are we in bandage to Satan. Being set free from that bondage let us as Christians walk with Christ and no longer be entangled in sin again.
