The words of Nehemiah the son of Hachaliah. And it came to pass in the month Chisleu, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace,
2 That Hanani, one of my brethren, came, he and certain men of Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews that had escaped, which were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.
3 And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.
4 And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven,
Neh 6:15
15 So the wall was finished in the twenty and fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty and two days.

I am going to preach about Nehemiah on Sunday, one of my favorite people in the Bible. Nehemiah saw a job that needed to be done and he did it. The walls of Jerusalem had been broken down well over one hundred years before, Jews had returned to rebuild them about ninety years before, and they were still in ruins. In just fifty two days Nehemiah had the walls rebuilt, how did he do it? Not on his own of course, he had help. Yes, there were others who worked for and with him, but Nehemiah did it by the power of God. When one steps out to do a work for the Lord they never step out alone. We need to remember that my friend as we serve the Lord in this world. The world is changing, getter darker and darker with sin, getting closer and closer to God’s coming judgment. Is it harder to serve the Lord today? Perhaps, but we never stand alone when we stand with Jesus. Nehemiah got the job done and so can we when Jesus stands with us.
