2 Cor 1:3-7 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;
4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.
6 And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.
7 And our hope of you is stedfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation.
KJV
Why do bad things happen to good people? Why do the Godly suffer? Those questions, and others like them, are ones often asked. One answer is found in our reading this morning as those who suffer heartache in this world are better able to comfort others going through the same thing. We live in a sin cursed world that is getting darker and darker with each passing day and the troubles of life increase with that darkness. We know as Christians that our heavenly Father is our comfort, that Jesus stands with us, and the Holy Spirit strengthens through every trial of life. As we are comforted we can in turn comfort others. We should never tell someone we know how they feel if we have not gone through the same thing but we can tell others we know how they feel, pray with them, comfort them when we have experienced the same. None of us like trials but our God can use them to enable us to be a comfort and help to others. Praise and thank the Lord even for the troubles and trials of life for they are useful.
