63 And he asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marvelled all.

The angel told that the son that would be born to Zacharias and Elisabeth would be named John and when the child was born he was named John. My point is not that parents should wait for an announcement from heaven as to what to name their children but that they should be in prayer as to how to order the child as we saw yesterday. Like the parents of Samson the parents of John, who we know as John the Baptist, followed the direction of God. Some one hundred years before it was given by inspiration of the Holy Spirit they obeyed the command found in Ephesians chapter six. (Eph 6:4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.) Their son would be brought up in the ways of the Lord. Is that what you want for your children? Are you determined to follow the Lord in the rearing of your children. Parents have a great responsibility that they need to take very seriously. Both Samson and John came to know the Lord at early ages because they had parents seeking direction from the Lord.
