1 Kings 18:21 And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the Lord be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.
1 Kings 18:37-39 Hear me, O Lord, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the Lord God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again.
38 Then the fire of the Lord fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.
39 And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The Lord, he is the God; the Lord, he is the God.

Continuing with our theme for the week we find this morning that for the spiritual fire to be burning brightly in a life that one must want it and ask for it. Elijah asked the people if they be for the Lord or for Baal and no one answered. (Verse 21) They were God’s people, they knew the Lord, but did they want the Lord to be real in their lives? That answer seems to be no. But when Elijah called out to the Lord and the fire fell upon that altar, when the people saw it, then they cried out to the Lord. One does not need to wait until they see God working in the lives of others, one can call upon the Lord and see God work in their own life. Have you asked God to do a work in your life, to speak to you this morning, to hear your prayers today, have you asked? Or like those in our text do you remain silent when you could be speaking to the Lord, do you turn your ears to other things when you could be in His Word and listening for His voice? What do you want today? I have some tell me how much they need God working in their lives and yet when the church doors are open they are not there, their Bible sits apart and alone, and they do not yearn to hear His voice and when given the opportunity to speak for the Lord they remain as silent as those in our text this morning. How long dear reader “Halt ye between to opinions?” Why not cry out for the fire of God to fall upon you today?
