Josiah was one of the good kings of the southern kingdom that the people had ruling over them after the kingdom divided. What made him a good king is revealed in verse two above, “He did that which was right in the sight of the Lord”. This began when he was a very young boy and continued as Josiah grew into adulthood and grew in the Lord. (Verse 3 above) Josiah then led a great revival in the nation, the type of revival we need in our nation and in our churches today. What brought about such a revival? Some things we will look at the remainder of this week beginning with the commitment Josiah made to the house of God. (2 Kings 22:3-6 And it came to pass in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, that the king sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, the son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the house of the Lord, saying, 4 Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may sum the silver which is brought into the house of the Lord, which the keepers of the door have gathered of the people: 5 And let them deliver it into the hand of the doers of the work, that have the oversight of the house of the Lord: and let them give it to the doers of the work which is in the house of the Lord, to repair the breaches of the house, 6 Unto carpenters, and builders, and masons, and to buy timber and hewn stone to repair the house.) When the house of God is neglected it smothers all hope of revival and the house of God had been neglected in that day. Many today want to downplay the importance of the local church. Is there a need to go to church? Why not watch the live stream, listen to the pod cast, pull up the website, why the need to go to the house of God? Many churches are cutting out services and look for any reason to close the doors on different occasions. Why the need for the church? Because the house of God has been at the center of every revival that has ever taken place. Be it the tabernacle, the temple, the local church building, every revival has found at its center the house of God. How committed are you to the house of God? In need of revival, in need of encouragement, in need of instruction, in need of correction, in need of hearing from God? All those have their beginning in the house of God. When we neglect the house of God we smother the working of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
