Ps 16:1 Preserve me, O God: for in thee do I put my trust.
Ps 16:11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.
KJV
This morning another step on our way from verse one to verse eleven in this beautiful Psalm.
(Ps 16:5-6 The Lord is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot.
6 The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.)
David kept his eyes on his inheritance. An inheritance is something passed down and as we think of that in this context we find David looking to what would be his one day in the Lord. David had a very humble beginning. He came from a large family, a working class family and David learned to work at an early age. David then chosen by God becomes king and has the world at his disposal. David had power, had fame, had wealth, had it all. David also had greater trials than I would ever want to go through that we will not list here. What kept David going? Was it his wealth, his fame, his power? What kept David going? David fixed his eyes on his inheritance in the Lord. David knew the things he gained in this world would not last but David also knew the trials of life would not last. David had an inheritance waiting for him in heaven where moth or rust would no corrupt. (Matt 6:19-20 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:) As David kept his eyes on heaven, on the Lord, on his inheritance and it brought the fulness of joy into his life. Where are you looking today, where are your eyes fixed? Eyes fixed on this world and the troubles we are dealing with cast a shadow over our days. Eyes fixed on our inheritance in the Lord bring the fulness of joy. Where are your eyes fixed today?
