1 Thess 5:18-19 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
19 Quench not the Spirit.

“In every thing give thanks”. There are no qualifiers before or after that command. We would rather give thanks for things that please us, help us, strengthen us, build us up and so on, but that is not what the Bible says. We are to give thanks for every thing “For this is the will of God”. I may not always understand the will of God but I am always to give thanks for the will of God in my life and the lives of those around me. I have been confronted by some bad news, not in my home, but in the lives of some I care for deeply and as I went and prayed with them I was reminded of the above verses. As we talked and prayed thanks were made to God for our God is always good and always in control and we need to be thankful. When we are not thankful we do quench the working of the Holy Spirit in our lives and hinder our joy in the Lord. I am sure all who read this are going through something but even as we deal with the trials and troubles of life we need to remember to be thankful. For how many things? For every thing.
