2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.
KJV
The words of this Psalm, which are the words of God for us today, come from the heart of a fallen and broken man. David had sinned, that sin was pointed out, and now David had a choice to make, go deeper into sin or come to his God seeking forgiveness. David made the right choice. Notice that David calls upon the love and multitude mercies of God in verse one. How many times do we need to call upon the love and mercies of God to forgive us for the actions of sin? Many times each day for the majority of us I believe. When we do come to our God He is able to do just what He did for David, wash us throughly from our sin and to cleanse us and that means to remove those actions of sin going forward. David needed this cleansing because sin was keeping him from his close walk with the Lord. What is keeping us from a close walk with the Lord today? What is ever before you or me that is keeping us from being what God wants us to be, doing what God wants us to do? We have the same God before us that David did, God is still full of love and mercy for us. Why not come as David did and seek a washing from our God? When we acknowledge or sin, confess our sin, we will be washed as David was and walk in the results of that washing as David did.
