October 16th, 2024 by Pastor Solley1 Sam 27:1-3 And David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul: there is nothing better for me than that I should speedily escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul shall despair of me, to seek me any more in any coast of Israel: so shall I escape out of his hand.
2 And David arose, and he passed over with the six hundred men that were with him unto Achish, the son of Maoch, king of Gath.
3 And David dwelt with Achish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, even David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal’s wife.

It is very easy to be overcome by the troubles and trials of this life. David knew certain things that had been revealed to him by God. First, that God has chosen him to be king in Israel as he was set apart by the prophet Samuel as recorded in 1 Samuel chapter sixteen. Second, that God could and would give him great victories as had been done in the battle with Goliath as recorded in 1 Samuel chapter seventeen. Third, that God would give him victory not over one but over tens of thousands as he put the Philistines to flight also in 1 Samuel seventeen. But now we find in our text that David felt he would die at the hands of Saul. David was overcome as we all can be by the everyday struggles and trials of this life and David doubted what God was able to do. David made a bad decision when he went into the land of the Philistines, when he turned to the world and not to the Lord his God. When we seem to be overcome, where there seems to be little or no hope, we need to trust in the Lord more and not less. Saul was never going to kill David no matter how many times he tried for God had made David a promise and the promises of God are always sure to come to pass. We have even more promises from God than David did so we need to trust more and doubt less no matter the circumstances we are in.
