Mark 5:1-5 And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.
2 And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,
3 Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:
4 Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.
5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.
KJV
The account of the man with the legion of demons and what they were doing to him puts on display the devastating impact that sin can have on an individual and a nation. That man most likely was possessed by one demon and when that one found a home it opened the door to others and then more and more demons were invited in. Sin always starts small and then grows and as one allows certain things into their lives more and more things are added. We see what sin was doing to the man above as the demons were destroying him. Many tried to help him by binding him but it was the wrong type of help and the demons only increased in number and power. What is sin doing to America today as we live in a nation that has invited sin to come in? Very few feel safe even in their own homes today. What is the answer? Social reform, more government handouts, more support groups? None of these are working so what is the answer for sin. The man with the demons is about to find out when he meets Jesus Christ. Christ is the answer to the sin problem and we will see more about that tomorrow.
