The Christian life is not one that will be free of tears and at times it seems tears everyday because of the trials and sorrows of this life. God never promises in His Word to keep us from tears in this world. But there is something else that comes everyday if we but look to the one that provides for us. (Lam 3:22-23 It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.) Jeremiah knew of the tears that accompany this life, but Jeremiah also knew of the compassion and mercy of his God. Jeremiah is known as the weeping prophet because of the persecutions and trials he went through. But we can also know him as the prophet of compassion and mercy because through it all his God was faithful to him. Yes, we will shed many tears in this life and at times bitter tears, but the mercy of God is never withdrawn from us and we need to continually be given to Him.
