Eph 6:1-3 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
2 Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)
3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

We continue with our brief study of the family this week by moving on to children as addressed in chapter six. “Children, obey your parents” is something missing in many homes today. In today’s world God’s order has been turned upside down. No longer is the husband the leader of the home with the wife following is subjection as he follows the Lord and then both bringing up children training them in the home. Now the children are the heads of the home, ruling over the wife and both ruling over the husband. It does not take a village to raise a child, it takes Godly parents and a home after God’s order. The first indication that a home is after God’s order is how the children obey their parents. Do they listen the first time they are told something? Do they question dad and mom? Have they felt the sting of correction when they did not obey? If you want your children to be well then you will demand that they obey as verse three above gives us the result of obedience. Sadly we see many homes today where the children are in charge. They do what they want when they want, they demand and are given, dad and mom become servants to those who should be serving them and the home as God would have it is reversed. The spiritual part of this is also one that needs be noted. When a child learns to obey dad and mom they learn to obey authority and as they grow they will obey the authority God has over them. The result of disobedience is a Godless society and as we look around today we see what has happened to our world when children we no longer made to obey. Parents, make you children obey.
