Acts 10:1-2 There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,
2 A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.
Acts 10:7 And when the angel which spake unto Cornelius was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually;

We look again at soldiers this morning with July 4th upon us. Above is the first appearance of the word soldier after the cross and we find a devout soldier in Cornelius. A soldier should look like what he or she is and should represent his commander in a good light. The word devout means Godly, to have a good base. Cornelius was a soldier and Cornelius was a devout man. Not only are both possible, both are essential if we are going to stand for our Lord and Savior. God wants soldiers and God wants devout soldiers, Godly men and women in His army, those who will represent Him well. A Christian soldier should have Godly actions, Godly dress, Godly practices, Godly companions, should be Godly. In many of the wars today one cannot tell the combatants from civilians. That should never be said of God’s soldiers, we are to be devout, we are to be Godly, we are to be known. What are you known as today? If your coworkers were asked would they know you are a Christian, would they know you are a soldier of the cross? What of your classmates, of you family, of those who live around you? Cornelius was known for what he was, are you?
