2 Tim 2:1-4 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
KJV
We will celebrate out independence here in America this coming Thursday and that independence came at a very high price. A great deal of hardness was endured so we could have our freedom. That freedom is under attack once more in our nation today. Free speech is under attack, freedom to worship is under attack, the Bible is under attack and we find ourselves as Christians in another war for independence. What to do? It is time for the people of God to be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus and perhaps endure some hardness as a good soldier. I want to look this week at the actions of a good soldier of Jesus Christ. Today we see that we are not to be so entangled in the world and with worldly things that we forget we are in a war. (Verse 4) Many today have become so used to the direction of the world that they just go along with the flow, they are been so caught up with life that they seem not to notice the direction they are being taken. To be consumed with the world is never a good thing, to be draw to the world is never a good thing. The word affairs in the verse means a transaction than that can be anything that takes us away from the Lord, anything that places us on another path. Where do you affections lie today? Are they rooted in things above or on things below? We must live in this world but we do not have to be entangled in the world. If you want to be a good soldier put Christ first in your life.
