19 For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment; that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.
KJV
Continuing with the subject of family as we lead up to Father’s Day we look at God’s choice of Abraham this morning. Why Abraham to be the father of Israel? What experience did Abraham have in starting a nation? None. What experience did Abraham have in being a father? None. Why Abraham? God was not looking for one with experience, God was looking for one with faith and one who would put that faith into practice. “For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord”… Abraham was not perfect, Abraham would make mistakes as we all do and I have made many as a father. But Abraham had faith in the true and living God and Abraham would put that faith into practice. What does God know about me today? My children are grown, married, and out on their own but I am still a father. What does God know about me? Do they see my faith? Do they see me putting my faith into practice? I am a grandfather. What does God know about me? Do my grandchildren see my faith? Do they see me putting my faith into practice? What does God know about me? What does God know about you this morning?
