Matt 8:24-27 And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.
25 And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish.
26 And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.
27 But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!
KJV
What an example of the power of God. The disciples were experienced seaman and had been able to handle any storm that they faced up until this one. The ship being covered points to it going down in the storm. No doubt they rowed as hard as they could, bailed out as much water as they could, but the ship was covered. Finally they come to Jesus and in a word from Him they find the storm ended and the sea calm. “But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!” He is still the same manner of man for you and me today. As the storms arise on the sea of life as they do so often we need remember “What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!” Why not take our greatest problems to Him at once instead of rowing and bailing ourselves? Why not take our smallest problems to Him at once instead of rowing and bailing ourselves? Not every storm will cease at once but our Lord is there to begin to calm us at once and show us a way through the storm.
