Isa 1:16-18
16 Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil;
17 Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.
18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
KJV
My thoughts turn to snow this morning as winter seems to have arrived here in central PA. The word snow is found 24 times in the Bible, none more important than the verse we find it in right here. God is speaking to Israel in this passage but there is an application that reaches to all men and women of all ages. We are all born in sin according to Romans 3:23, Romans 5:12 and many other verses in our Bible. What can we do about sin, what can we do about the blackness of sin? Noting! There is only one who can take care of the sin problem, only one who can wash away our sin, that is the Lord Jesus Christ. We will celebrate the coming of the Son of God into this world in two weeks, what we need to do is look beyond the manger and look to the cross. Ever wash anything in blood? Who would do that? Jesus would, He washes our sin away in the blood of the cross and we come out made whiter than snow. The new fallen snow always reminds me of new life in Christ.
