1 John 2:7-13 Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.
8 Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.
9 He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.
10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.

Another reason John got so much out of his Christian life was his concern for others. John learned to put others before himself and to love them as Jesus did, John was even willing to give his life for others. (1 John 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.) This life is not all about us as the world teaches, it is about serving the Lord and others. Remember what JOY means? Jesus, Others, You. Try that sometime, being more concerned with others than self, being more concerned with Jesus first, and see if that does not take care of many of the problems we seem to have. Who or what is most important to you? Is it self and the things you gain in this world? If so, that is keeping you from getting the most out of your Christian life.
