Rom 8:14-17 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
KJV
What is an inheritance? An inheritance is something one is given, something one is left with, not something earned. However an inheritance is something that can be added to. I want to consider this morning our inheritance as Christians. According to the Bible when one repents and is born again they become a child of God through Jesus Christ and as that child of God they become heirs, the Bible says join heirs with Christ. That means we have an inheritance coming. In this world I have received an inheritance from time to time, to this point not great things, but an inheritance none the less. When I leave this world I will give to my children Lord willing an inheritance, again it will not be big things. Some property, a house, those will be the biggest. As we think of what we receive as children of God the inheritance is not a small one, it is a great one. Think of what Jesus promised in John 14, a mansion in heaven. Jesus said “In my Father’s house are many mansions”. One of those will be mine. There are other things as well. A glorified body will be mine, a place ruling and reigning with Christ will be mine, streets of pure gold to walk on, there are many things that make up the inheritance of a Christian. Then there are things right now that are a part of that inheritance. Privilege of prayer, presence of the Holy Spirit within, wisdom to understand His Word, power to obey His Word, they are a part of our inheritance as well. As Christians we have an inheritance, some parts of it ours right now, some to come later. Today let us meditate for a few moments of what is coming later and see if that will lift your spirits on this Monday.
