Josh 24:15-18 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
16 And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake the Lord, to serve other gods;
17 For the Lord our God, he it is that brought us up and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, and which did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way wherein we went, and among all the people through whom we passed:
18 And the Lord drave out from before us all the people, even the Amorites which dwelt in the land: therefore will we also serve the Lord; for he is our God.
KJV
These people had every reason to serve the Lord and then name a few of those reasons in verses 17 and 18. They were but children when they came out of Egypt, crossed the Red Sea on dry ground, witnessed the battles fought on the way to the Promised Land, but they remembered those things. Then they were the ones God placed in the land, they were the ones crossing the Jordan river, seeing Jericho fall and all the enemies of God being driven out before them. These people had good reason to serve the Lord. Yet Joshua knew they would not serve the Lord, why? Because all of us, including them, have very short memories. I know people today who claim to be Christians and at the same time claim that God isn’t doing anything for them. How can that be? They have very short memories and because of that they will not give Christ what is due Him. Take time today to stop and count your blessing, time to think of what Jesus Christ ahs done for you. Take the time to do that and we will find many reasons why we should verve the Lord.
