Josh 14:10-13 And now, behold, the Lord hath kept me alive, as he said, these forty and five years, even since the Lord spake this word unto Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness: and now, lo, I am this day fourscore and five years old.
11 As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in.
12 Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the Lord spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the Lord will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the Lord said.
13 And Joshua blessed him, and gave unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance.

The conversation taking place in our text this morning is between Caleb and Joshua and concerns the dividing of the Promised Land to the different tribes and families of Israel. Caleb is 85 years old and he comes to claim his inheritance, his portion of the land. The major cities have been overthrown, however many battles remained to be fought and when Caleb steps our nothing what he asks of Joshua, “Give me this mountain”. He does not ask for the bottom land, not for the valley, but for a mountain. Caleb was willing to work and fight for what would be his. I want to apply this to serving the Lord and how young or old we can be to serve and what we should look to do. First, the age limitations. There are none in the Bible, young or old can serve. How young? As soon as one is able. How old? Until one is called home to be with the Lord. Understand that the mountains may change along the way. While we are younger we can perhaps do more things. We can work physically around the church, we can build, we can be out and about, we may be able to do more things, climb more mountains if you would. When we get older things may change, but we can still serve. An 85 year old cannot do what a 35 year old can do, but they can still serve, still be useful for the Lord. Perhaps now it is a deeper ministry of prayer, or a ministry of wisdom giving counsel to the younger ones. There are no age limits with the Lord. Mountains may change, but we can still serve.
