Luke 19:9-10 And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.
10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

Jesus saves! Are there two more precious words that could be uttered, a phrase that could bring more joy to the heart of man than Jesus saves? I can’t imagine how many times that might be heard in heaven right now and throughout all eternity, Jesus saves! I want to look this week at the saving power of Jesus Christ, at that great eternal truth, Jesus saves. Did you know that phrase is not found in the Bible, those two words together side by side, Jesus saves, is not found in the Bible? Yet there is no more important truth that could be proclaimed than Jesus saves. That day about 2,000 years ago Zacchaeus found it to be true, Jesus saves. In Luke 19 we find a hated sinner meeting Jesus. (Luke 19:1-2 And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. 2 And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.) Why was he hated and who hated him? He was hated my men because he was a publican, a man serving Rome by gathering taxes from the Jews and hated not just because he served Rome but because he was a thief. The publicans earned their wages by robbing the people. Rome demanded a certain amount but placed no limit on what could be collected in the tribute money. So the publican took as much as he could get, paid off Rome and kept the rest for himself. Zacchaeus was a hated man, consider a traitor and a thief. But he was also a man who desired to meet Jesus and a man known by God. (Luke 19:3-4 And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature. 4 And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.)
When Jesus saw that man He saw the need. (Luke 19:5-6 And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house. 6 And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.) Soon this man would know by experience that Jesus saves which brings us to the first point of the week. Jesus sees the need of man and is able to meet the need of man. (Luke 19:9-10 And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.) You may not have been or are not now a hated man as Zacchaeus was, but you were or are a person in need of salvation and how thankful we need to be that Jesus sees the need. Jesus saves my friend, even the hated man, Jesus saves. Is that the need Jesus sees in you today?
